Interstate 5

Generally regarded with dread, the Interstate 5 is not known for its beauty. It is known for it's endless empty fields and unchanging orchards. Being a child of California and loving both north and south halves I have travelled its long snaking path many times. While there are certainly sections of sleep inducing monotony, I often find myself taken aback by the austere and bucolic majesty of the landscape. I am awed by the people who call this place their home, hundreds of miles from the nearest metropolis and even further from the sea. If you ever find yourself following the asphalt spine of California take a moment to enjoy the emptiness, just not downwind of the cattle ranches.
